College Associate Degrees

Associate degrees:
An associate degree is a  formal  degree usually  awarded  by  the  junior colleges ,business colleges, community institutions  and   universities. In fact,
the  duration  of  the  degree is  approximately  equivalent  to  two years. Moreover,  it  may  be  noted  that  such  type  of  degrees are  more  prevalent  in  countries  like  United States, UK  and  Canada. Prominently,  an associate  degree  is  generally  pursued  as  a  part-time  study  and  has  been  found  to  be  more  suitable  for   the  working professionals.

Major  types  of  Associate degrees  depending  upon  the  specialization:
  • Associate of Arts degree: It is  awarded for  those programs which  are transferred  for transfer to a four-year college or university, having  expertise in  social sciences or humanities, but may be awarded as a terminal  degree.
  • Associate of Science degree: It  is  awarded to terminal students or to potential transfer students for a four-year  college or university, but the areas of specialization  are usually in mathematics, natural sciences or technology.
  • Associate of Fine Arts degree: It is typically awarded to student in music, theatre and arts. It also helps  the students  to  get  abreast  about  the  deep insights  of  arts  faculties.
  • Associate of Arts in Teaching degree: It  is  a  unique  degree  which allows students  to  become  more  familiar about  the  teaching pattern  and  thus  helps  those  students  who  are  interested  in  teaching  and  are  willing to assist    the  teachers  in  making the   students more well-informed  about  their  various subjects.
Associate  professional degrees:
  • Associate in Applied Science: It  is awarded to students who are permitted to relax some of the general education requirements in order to study more course work in their duration. Moreover, it  is  well-suited  for students who intend to enter the work force upon graduation.
  • Associate in Industrial Technology: It is more  technical  and  is  awarded in fields of industrial technologies such as computers, electronics, radio and television broadcasting, and engineering. It may also be for those who continue on to a four year university program.
  • Associate in Business Administration degree: It  is a  business-oriented  degree and  may  be  transferred to a four-year college or university. It makes students abreast about  the  prevailing  business methodologies  in  relation  to the  market dynamics.
  • Associate in Occupational Studies degree: It  is for students who are  likely  to  join   the work force after completing  their  graduation. It   may  be  noted  that  there are  no special liberal arts requirements for this degree.
